The dictates of fashion are severe and many women follow them to the last consequences. For some time we have been complaining about the tyranny imposed by fashion on the prototype of feminine beauty, which is totally incompatible with health. But the need to always be beautiful and follow the latest trends means that many women put their health at serious risk. The latest fashion that comes to us from the United States is to go under the knife to cut off the little finger and thus be able to wear heels longer and without pain.
Around in heels
- It is evident those heels stylize the figure, that they make the legs longer and more beautiful and that the higher the heel, the better impression it causes, as long as you know how to wear a heel, of course. But there has also been a lot of talk about the health risks of wearing a very high heel, with the danger of deformed feet and back and hip problems, among others.
- Even so, there are women who resist wearing healthier footwear and cannot give up their heels, even if they suffer continuous injuries, calluses and pain. And aesthetic medicine has sided with these women who are willing to suffer any torment in order not to leave the house without their heels and provides them with methods as tremendous as the Loeb Job or Botox injections to avoid feeling pain.
- But now, the remedies to hold the heels have gone a step further and a surgery that consists of cutting the little toe of the foot has become fashionable so that it does not interfere with the use of the heel. Thus, more space is achieved to place the foot inside a narrow shoe and greater comfort when wearing a high heel. The pretext given by doctors and clients is that that little finger is useless.
Suffer to brag
- Luckily, there are still some doctors who do not agree with this surgery and refuse to perform it because they consider it completely unnecessary and harmful to health. But we do not stop wondering what it is that leads these women to undergo surgery to cut their little finger, and it is then when we return to reflect on the excessive importance of physical appearance in our society, the rigidity of that model of beauty that does not accept anything else, and the low self-confidence of some women who are capable of suffering any torture to follow the dictates of fashion.
- But we are not going to put our hands to our heads at this point either. We constantly see celebrities almost disfigured by going overboard with cosmetic surgery, or by a poor choice of treatment. And neither can we forget that this suffering to show off comes from afar, one only has to remember how in China the growth of girls’ feet was prevented based on treatments that were authentic torture.
