Tell me what shoes you wear and I’ll tell you what you look like

It is always said that our way of dressing, our hairstyle, and our makeup reveal who we are and what we think of ourselves. Now a study has shown that even shoes, in addition to having a practical purpose, which is to protect our feet from rubbing against the ground, also transmit useful information about our personality. So, if we plan to make a good impression at a job interview, on a date, at a business meeting, or at any other social event, we must learn to choose footwear carefully.

How was the study done?

A study carried out by researchers from the University of Kansas (USA) and published in the Journal of Research in Personality has shown that our personality is reflected 90% in our shoes. The team worked with sixty-three students who were shown more than two hundred and eight photographs of the shoes of volunteers who had previously taken a personality test. From the photographs of the shoes, the observers were able to determine with relative precision whether the person was liberal or conservative, extroverted or introverted. if he was emotionally stable, as well as his level of sympathy, insecurity, anxiety, and isolation, among other characteristics. They even managed to discover his social level and income.

The results

  • The study revealed that those who wear high-top shoes tend to be more unpleasant and find it difficult to form intimate relationships. If they wear ankle boots it means that their personality is aggressive. When it comes to color, different colored shoes reveal a calm and outgoing personality. On the other hand, conscientious and serious people wore shoes that, although not new, is very clean and well-preserved. These people also tend to show more anxiety when an intimate relationship ends, as they show that they are more concerned about appearances and the image that others form of them.
  • Obviously, expensive shoes are worn by those women or men with high purchasing power and who tend to be on the right. On the contrary, cheap and sloppy shoes are worn by people with a liberal tendency. At first glance, it seems that stiletto heels, in addition to offering a sexy look, are used by those women who like to experience a feeling of power, in addition to showing self-confidence. However, the study shows that women who tend to wear the most uncomfortable shoes are calm people. Although the most practical and functional shoes belonged to the most sympathetic and friendly users
  • Women who wear ballerinas prove to be more diplomatic and ambitious, while women who wear sneakers tend to be spontaneous and assertive. As for those who like to wear sandals without heels, they show a pleasant, natural, and simple character. Also, if you wear boring shoes it means that you have difficulties establishing personal relationships, perhaps it is a sign of shyness, since it shows a repressive and distant personality, with few communication skills, although they are not very concerned about the image that other people form about them.
